Description:

This quaint cottage is only steps away from the Harbor. Located in the heart of Downeast Maine, this 3 bedroom, 1 Bath house was built in 1924 by a retired sea captain. Hardwood floors, claw foot tub and ornamental tin ceilings are some of its features.  Living room and dining room have brand new carpeting.  Only steps to the harbor where you can see lobster boats and beautiful sunsets. The town of Winter Harbor offers many local establishments, such as the oldest 5 & 10 store in America, JM Gerrish Provisions, Fisherman's Inn, Chase's restaurant, art gallery, 9-hole golf course and more, all within walking distance!

Whether you want to hike, kayak or bike in the great outdoors, stroll through quaint Maine fishing villages, visit national parks, landmarks & lighthouses, shop at local hand-made craft stores & enjoy all that Maine has to offer, this home has the perfect location.  Located in Winter Harbor, Maine, we are approximately 30 minutes North from Bar Harbor.  Our part of Maine is known as "Downeast", a reference that dates back to the shipping industry of the 18th and 19th centuries when Maine was a shipping capital. When schooners sailed from Boston to ports in Maine, they traveled to the east. They also sailed downwind (with the wind at their backs). This led to the expression "Downeast".

Public swimming is only 15 minutes away at Jones Pond.  The closest beach is Sand Beach, approx. 15 minutes drive.  The 2,366 acre Schoodic Peninsula section of Acadia National Park is only a two minute drive and offers exceptional views of rocky coastline.  This is a great spot for picnics or you can bike the 12 miles of rocky coastline!

Oh, by the way....did we forget to mention that you can purchase fresh live lobsters just down the street?  Winter Harbor Co-Op on Main Street purchases lobster daily from the fisherman whose boats you can watch all day.  Maine has the sweetest, juiciest lobsters!   Lobster Cooking Tip:  Just remember, you don't want to boil the lobsters, you want to steam them, they taste much better.  Visit the Maine Lobster Promotion Council for detailed cooking instructions.
